Top Ten Ring Finds of 2007

Casper
Found in Miami area - This ring was Topper for a day that I found the most gold targets for in my 30+ yrs hunting. Found 9 gold items that day. Ring is 18K and weighs 17 grams and has 36 round diamonds - 18 on top and bottom. Middle has 2 rows of 16 square cut diamonds for a total of 68 diamonds. Found a 1 carat diamond solitaire and another ring with around 1 1/2 carats of diamonds, but this one I like best.

Ron Chicago
It was a warm August night. I decided to hit the lake with my metal detector for a couple hours. There was no wind so I figured the lake would be very calm. After about 45 minutes in the water with only a couple coins and the usual junk to show for my effort, I decided to try the dry sand for a while before leaving. As luck would have it I was finding lots of coins to keep me interested. About half way down the beach I got a solid hit on the Whites MXT, I was hunting at night with only the moon for light so I didn't check the VDI screen to ID the target. I dug down about 6" and saw a circle of shiny stones looking up from the bottom of the hole! I pulled the ring from its resting place and as soon as I felt the weight of it I thought " this has to be platinum" I flipped the ring over and the other side was covered with diamonds too! I hunted for about 20 more minutes until I couldn’t take the suspense any more. When I got back to the car I carefully wiped the sand and chec
ked the inscription inside of the ring. 90% PLAT    MICHAEL B.
My first thought was this is not someone’s name as it wasn't in cursive writing, It must be the designer. Once I got home I got on the computer and goggled MICHAEL B, turns out Micheal Bogosian is a prominent Jewelry designer in California. I looked for the retail price on a couple jewelry websites but they all said "call for price" I showed the ring to my friends and wore it for a couple days.
After a week I had decided to contact the designer. On Thursday morning I made the call. I explained that I had found a ring on the beach in Chicago and was trying to see if I could return if to the owner. I was told that they don't put any identifying marks inside their rings and that it was probably not possible to find the owner. Ready for this answer I asked about resizing the ring so I could wear it as a wedding band. Already having my wife’s ok to wear a different band then my own! They said " I would have to see a jeweler in Chicago that they deal with, the jeweler would get my size and ship the ring to them and they would call me to let me know how much it cost.
The following Thursday I took the ring in to the jeweler.
Two weeks later I got a call from the jeweler. Telling me that between the time I called the designer and the designer received the ring he figured out who's ring it was. Turns out the designers son's, Michael Jr., is going to school here in Chicago. His father gave him the ring as a gift for receiving his Bachelors degree. He had lost his ring one night while at the beach.
Michael B decided since I had tried to return the ring and then wanted to size it for myself, that as a token of his appreciation he would make me an identical ring in platinum and diamonds.
After talking to the jeweler I was flabbergasted and had to call the designer to confirm his generosity. I talked to one of the designers two sons, the brother of the ring owner, and was told it would take about 4 weeks for the ring to be made. He said they would contact me when it was done because Michael Jr wanted to present the ring to me personally! I have since picked up the ring and they are making arrangements for an official  presentation and a press release.

The diamond was so big I thought it was fake so I took it to the 'We buy gold and diamonds' store in town to have it tested. Even the store keepers eyes bugged out. The value has been estimated at $5,000 to $7,000 wholesale just for the stone.

I turned the ring into the local police department per state law. The waiting period is 6 months and as of a week ago it has not been claimed so this time next month I may get the ring back.

I see this on one of the forums:
I am hoping that someone in this forum would be able to help me. I lost my wedding ring at the First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach. The entrance to this beach was at 64th Street and Atlantic Avenue. My wife and I went kayaking on Memorial Day, came back around 1PM and was standing near the tree in the picture. While trying to rub off the sand from my shorts, I somehow managed to let go off the ring into the bush. I heard it hitting the leaves but even 5 hours of searching did not help to recover it. We even bought a metal detector to look for the ring but that didn't help. I would like to offer a reward of 500 dollars for anyone who can recover that ring. Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional information about the location. The ring is made of platinum and gold.

Well I just happened to be down at the ocean front on the next day and did not find anything at the ocean so I said to my self let me go up to First Landing State Park (which was about 2 miles up the street) and see if I can find this guys ring for him. Well when I got there I recognized the parking spot from the picture he had posted on the site. I got out my Excalibur 1000 and walked over to where he said he had lost the ring and I found the ring in less than 10 seconds. I could not believe it. So I said to myself let me walk over here to the shore and see what else I can find. Well I walked about 4ft and got another nice low growl on my headphone and out pops this nice 14k mans diamond ring with 7 diamonds. So in just a matter of a few minutes I had found 2 really nice rings. Well it took me a couple of weeks to hook back up with this guy because he did not leave any way to get hold of him. So I posted back on the forum that I had found his ring. When he did call me he li ved down in North Carolina and was up here on vacation. He put me in contact with a friend of his who lived and worked in Val Beach. We made arrangements to meet and I returned the ring to his friend who in turn gave me the $500 reward. And I also got the other ring resized to fit me and wear it now.
