Metal Detecting Forum

closed Myrtle Beach airport.

Hi...I'm new to the area and have enjoyed detecting for many yrs. Was wondering about the airforce base. In researching the net I understand that it was given over to the city in the mid 90s and that myrtle beach doesn't allow detecting in the city parks and they run some at the old base location but I also understand that some of the grounds went to private companies for development of shops, housing, etc. Was there looking at the commons and the rest a few days ago and they had just stripped about 4" of sod from a large section of original looking ground by the lake and park...Juicy looking. Was just wondering how much area was privately owned and if there was a possibility of getting permission. Has anyone out there gotten a chance at some point either at the beginning of development or anytime since to detect it and if so...any good finds? Thanks in advance for any responses.
