I don't know how Iowa was settled. Most farms in Iowa are at least about 300 acres, but lots of the ground is either rented to big time farmers or bought up. A friend just passed away and he had about 250 or so. It was called a century farm, meaning it had been in the family for over a century. He had 4 kids and none could afford to buy it from there siblings so it was sold to a big time farmer. A sad deal for the siblings. One wanted to keep it and rent it out, but no deal. The ground is worth about 10 grand an acre. Beautiful farm, and excellent ground.
