I used to be a trapper years ago. I trapped a large variety of fur bearers,but I don't trap anymore, I've gotten soft, and don't want to do do it anymore.
Something most people don't know is beaver can be vicious, and fight with each other. When trapping in areas where beaver were over populated, they would have big scars all over their backs, which degrade the fur value greatly.
Once while skinning a large beaver, I found a 3" broken off tooth from another beaver lodged in the back of it's neck. The skin was healed over.
Don't mean to get gross, but just confirming what you and Mark said. Animals are tough and can survive.
